I thought I would take a brief break talking about US coins and speak about working from home. Don’t worry, we’ll be back to talking collecting in the next post. Now, more and more working people want to be able to work from home, and who can blame them. Hopefully, this post will help you with this.
Work From Home – Old School
Back in the 1990s, I had a position as a computer contractor, and I had the pleasure to work from home for a year, or so I thought. From home, I could work on programs locally, and submit it back to the company, but it wasn’t as quick and easy as it is today. So, what would take me 8 hours at the office turned out to be 10 hours at home. What made it worse was I had to be on call at night. Whether getting beeped at the movies or out with friends, or getting woken up in the middle of the night to fix a problem before the system came back up at 6am. Not exactly the dream job I had hope for.
Around 15 years ago, I was looking for work and found something online to do work on the computer to sell certain reports to people from a company. If any of the reports I sent were paid by the recipient, I would get $1 out of each $5 paid. Now this sounded good to me until the manager came on the phone and told me I had to pay $2,200 for the software that I would need to do this. What? $2,200? Now I would have to sell 2,200 reports before I would see a profit. When I questioned this, he told me I was acting like a little kid. I replied, “The only way I would be acting like a little kid is being suckered into buying $2,200 worth of software”, and that was the end of that.
Back then, working from home sounded good, but wasn’t as easy as most people thought. As time went on, there were work from home scams like surveys or mystery shoppers. Don’t get me wrong, there are a few of these that are legitimate, but you may be doing a lot of long surveys before you see any profit.
What about Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is a process that allows a merchant or retailer to pay an affiliate a commission when the affiliate gets customers to the merchant’s website and makes a purchase. In the past, people would have to buy products at a low price and try to sell it online to customers. Today, we have online retailers, stores and auctions, like Amazon and EBay, that already have the products. To help sell these products, they allow outside people, or affiliates, to get them to their websites. How do affiliates do this? They build websites or blogs and create posts with links to the merchant’s products. Customers read the affiliate’s articles, click on the links to enter the retailer’s website, and purchase the product. Then, the retailers takes a percentage of what the customer paid, and gives the affiliate a commission. The best part, the affiliate doesn’t have to purchase any products to try to sell, and doesn’t have to ship the product to the customer. Basically, it’s a dream come true opportunity, but it takes time, patience, and work to be successful. Would you consider doing this if you had some help to become a successful affiliate marketer?
