Design a US Commemorative Coin 9

That’s right! If you ever wanted to design a US Commemorative or maybe add something to your artist portfolio, here’s your chance. I’d give it a shot, but all of my people designs are stick figures. Think I’ll stick to web development and collecting coins.

In 2018, the US mint is going to release a Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative coin, and is asking the public for a design. You have until October 17, 2016 to submit a design to the mint. You can submit up to five designs. Twenty designs will be selected after October 17th, and the designers will be able to submit designs and/or plasters where one finalist will be picked to put on the US Commemorative.

For more information of the design contest, go to . You must be a US citizen who is 18 or older to enter. The winner will receive $10,000 and have their initials included on the commemorative. You could be the next St. Gaudens, Barber, Morgan, Sinnock or other US coin designers.

At the moment, the mint plans to mint 750,000 clad Half Dollars, 400,000 Silver Dollars and 50,000 Pink Gold Five Dollars.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month began back in October, 1985 between the American Cancer Society and what is now AstraZeneca which has produced a number of anti-breast cancer drugs. The pink ribbons were first seen in 1991 when the Susan G. Komen foundation handed them out to the runners of the New York City race for Breast Cancer survivors.

So, do you have an idea for a design for this commemorative? If you’re an artist, it will be a way for the country to see what you can do. Something you can put on a job resume. “I designed a US Commemorative coin.” If you won, let me know. I’d love to see it! Good luck on your attempts!

    Hey KCorina

This is very interesting, I wasn’t even aware that the US mint was doing this! What an amazing opportunity, imagine getting your design chosen, that would be something to live on forever and what a way to show awareness to a great cause like this one.

Thank you for this article, i have shown some friends in my office already.

Hey JJ! Thanks for the comment! The US mint occasionally allows the public to help them in designing a coin. I just found out about this yesterday and Breast Cancer Awareness being popular, it would be interesting to see what people come up with for this new commemorative.

What a wonderful idea this is for the breast Cancer awareness issue that is going on in this world.

This is also a fantastic opportunity for an individual to have their artistry picked and forever Stamped out on a US coin! I am so glad I saw this site because I know A .couple of people that will be so happy to submit their drawings I will also pass this along to other people so if everybody can have an advantage. This is also an advantage for the coin world to have new items thanks again Angela

Thanks for the comment Angela! That’s great that you know people who would be interested in designing this. Just remind them they only have till October 17th to submit their entries.

That is a really nice way to commemorate. Thank you for the opportunity. What are the chances of getting approved for one and how do you know if one is already getting worked on at the moment or already done? Nice historical information on that as well. Coins are always cool to collect.
